Principal's Letter

Dear SPS Parents and Guardians,
On behalf of the staff at Swainsboro Primary School, I am happy to welcome you to the 2014-2015 school year! We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our children can achieve their highest potential. We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both the home and school. We know a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities. We ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that he/she:
 Attends school daily and arrives on time, ready for the day’s learning experience
 Completes all homework assignments given by teachers
 Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills
 Shares school experiences with you so that you are aware of he/her school life
 Informs you if he/she needs additional support in any area or subject
 Know that you expect him/her to succeed in school and go on to college
We welcome parents and family members to become involved in your child’s education. There are a variety of ways to become involved such as joining our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), volunteering in your child’s classroom, attending school events, helping with your child’s homework, and by communicating with your child’s teacher on a regular basis. SPS is fortunate to have a hardworking PTO that is dedicated to supporting and enriching the learning opportunities for our students.
At Swainsboro Primary, we strive to provide our students with the best educational experience by creating a safe, positive learning environment, by providing rigorous standards-based instruction, by using the state adopted standards, and by ensuring that the individual needs of each and every student are met. Our highly qualified staff members collaborate and share best practices on a regular basis through professional learning communities in an effort to meet the needs of students at all levels. Student safety, academic achievement, and building character are our top priorities.
Student attendance at school is a serious matter. Please work with us to ensure that your child is at school every day by 8:00 a.m. Arriving on time and staying at school all day, every day is a critical factor in the academic success of your child. With ”Truancy” guidelines, regular attendance, being on time, and not leaving early is very important.
We are pleased to report that Swainsboro Primary School has not been identified as a Priority, Focus, or Alert school. Our school exceeded the state’s average grade band for elementary schools with a College and Career Ready Index Performance score of 82.7. We will continue to implement instructional strategies that increase student achievement.
The wonderful Swainsboro Primary School Staff and I feel privileged to be a part of this school family. We thank you for your support and look forward to meeting you. You may contact me at vwatkins@emanuel.k12.ga.us or call 478-237-8302.
