Principal's Letter

 Dear Parents,

As you know we are just over half way through the school year, we are still continuing with high expectations for student learning and parental involvement. We want to remind parents to look for the daily communication folder and remember to sign your initials indicating you have seen the folder each day. Please continue to look for your child’s weekly letter every Friday.  Notice upcoming lessons, school events, as well as a reminder for all students to be on time for school each day. Our school goal is for everyone to be at school by 8:00 a.m.  Being at school on time is a system wide effort. We want to make sure our students learn the value of being on time for school early on as they begin their educational career.

What’s new at SPS:

We are proud to share “what’s new” at Swainsboro Primary School.   During the months of October through December we had the pleasure of welcoming our East Georgia College Athletes to come in and spend time with some 2nd grade students.  EGC CARES is a mentoring program that assists students that may need that extra push to keep them motivated to do their best.  In the month of November, our 2nd grade students presented a “Living Village” demonstration to our school. Students reenacted how Native Americans lived in Georgia. This performance task was tied in with 2nd grade’s Social Studies standards.  Swainsboro Primary School was also excited to receive new playground equipment that was donated by Swainsboro Kiwanis Club.  Our first and Kindergarten classes recently visited East Georgia College’s Planetarium.  Our science teacher “Miss” Kim coordinated this activity and it was a great success.   SPS is a work based learning placement site, we have SHS students that come in as teacher assistants for a few hours daily.  We have recently implemented our Bus of the Month, where we recognize bus drivers that reward students with tickets for good behavior on the bus.

Reminders:

Mock CRCT for 1st and 2nd graders will be on April 2-4. April 2 students will take the Reading portion, April 3 the English /Language Arts portion will be administered and April 4 the Mathematics portion will be completed by students. This test will serve as accumulation of what students have learned this school term.  Parents should expect results from this assessment by the end of April.

April 6 – Holiday (NO SCHOOL)

Spring Holidays – April 23-27

Please know how much we value you (our parents) as our partners in education. We have the same goal….we want to see your child succeed not just at SPS but beyond. We encourage you to remain active in your child’s educational career.

If you have any concerns or comments please contact your child’s teacher or me at 237-8302.

Sincerely,

Valorie Watkins, Principal
